A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Evelyn Murphy, PrincipalDear Students and Parents,
At Southwood, we take seriously our responsibility of educating the young people entrusted to our care. We continue to implement an instructional program that promotes academic and technological proficiency while allowing students to progress at varying rates. We also consistently promote the implementation of an effective, consistent school-wide program that promotes ethical character. As Dr. Martin Luther King stated, "We must remember that education is not enough. Intelligence plus character --- that is the true goal of education."
We plan to make every effort to keep you informed of your child's progress. We are also committed to allowing our young people to assume an increasing amount of responsibility for their own behavior. As part of this responsibility, notices and reports will be sent home with your child. I encourage you to ask your child on a regular basis if he/she has any correspondence for you from the school. We also encourage you to take advantage of PowerSchool's parent portal, where you can view your child's current grades and attendance at your convenience. Our teachers update the classroom web pages on a regular basis, as well, so you can be aware of classroom assignments and activities. The faculty, staff, and administration are committed to helping your child have a successful school year. I am asking that you assist us by getting to know your child's teachers, making sure your child gets enough rest, and requiring time for study at home.
I look forward to working closely with you and your child and will do everything within my power to ensure that your child receives the best possible education at Southwood. You are cordially invited to visit or call us at any time. When at the school, remember to stop by the office to sign in and receive a visitor's pass.
I consider it a privilege and feel very fortunate to work with Anderson School District Five, Southwood Middle School, and the community we serve.
Sincerely,
Evelyn Murphy, Principal
